[photo, Dragon boat races, Locust Point, Baltimore, Maryland] In Maryland, Dragon Boat races are held in Annapolis, Baltimore City, down at Solomons in Calvert County, but also at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone in the western part of the State. Teams from the Mid-Atlantic to the Mid-West compete to win on behalf of their racing clubs or to benefit charities.

A dragon boat team consists of twenty-two members, of whom twenty are paddlers, sitting in ten rows of two each. In the back is the steersperson, and a drummer sits in the front.
