JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS COMMITTEE

ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS

The Judicial Proceedings Committee was established by the Senate in December 1831 as a five-member body first appointed in January 1832.


[photo, Miller Senate Office Building, 11 Bladen St., Annapolis, Maryland] The Committee is assigned legislation relating to constitutional amendments; corporations and associations; correctional facilities and services; criminal and civil laws, penalties, and procedures; family law; human relations; judicial administration and court structure; juvenile justice; law enforcement organizations; the legal profession; legal rights and immunities; public safety; real property, including landlord and tenant laws; trusts and estates; and vehicle laws, including drunk driving.

Eleven senators serve on this committee (Senate Rules 18; Code State Government Article, secs. 2-1103 through 2-1105).
