Served in U.S. Army during World War II (Central Intelligence Corp.; Officer Candidate School, Brisbane, Australia; served in new Guinea until 1945). Tobacco farmer; raised feeder cattle. President, Maryland Farm Bureau, 1955. Past president, Calvert County Farm Bureau. Board of Directors, National Insurance (past chair); Southern States Cooperative, 1984-96. Member, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Disbled American Veterans. Member, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame, 1991. Member, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Prince Federick, Maryland. Widower; three daughters, nine grandchildren. Died in Prince Frederick, Maryland, February 14, 2006.
