In September 2000, the Task Force to Study the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation was formed (Chapter 634, Acts of 2000). The Task Force studied and made recommendations concerning the program, practices, and financial standing of the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation.

The interim report of the Task Force was submitted to the Governor and General Assembly on December 1, 2000. The Task Force's final report was submitted August 21, 2001.

In June 2002, a second task force of the same name convened to consider issues the original task force had recommended for further study.
