In July 2006, the Task Force to Convene a Summit on Civic Literacy in Maryland organized (Chapter 424, Acts of 2006).

The Task Force was to convene a civic literacy summit where a plan for enhancing civic engagement and literacy in Maryland will be developed. The summit was to be organized with the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, School of Public Policy, University of Maryland College Park.

Authorization for the Task Force extended through December 31, 2006. The Maryland Civic Literacy Summit was held on January 4, 2007.
