Authorized in July 2006, the Task Force on Green Building evaluated and recommended methods to increase public demand for environmentally sensitive communities, and ways to improve low-impact sustainable development (Chapter 610, Acts of 2006). By studying green building techniques and low-impact development codes around the country, it determined what makes a green building program effective. The Task Force also considered how to improve communication regarding a green building program to communities, businesses, and developers. Moreover, the Task Force identified the potential for reducing costs of low-impact development through stormwater management, roadbuilding, and other infrastructure for communities.

The Task Force submitted a preliminary report in January 2007 and its final report to the Governor and General Assembly in December 2007.
