In July 2008, the Task Force to Study Financial Matters Relating to Long-Term Care Facilities was authorized (Chapter 672, Acts of 2008; Chapters 93 & 94, Acts of 2010). The Task Force was to consider trends in ownership of long-term care facilities in Maryland and the nation, and whether such trends affect the quality of care to residents. Further, the Task Force was to recommend whether current laws concerning ownership of long-term care facilities should be changed, and if the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene should impose restrictions on some types of ownership. Requiring liability insurance for long-term care facilities also was to be considered by the Task Force, as well as how to fund any recommendations the Task Force makes.
Authorization for the Task Force extended through June 30, 2012.
The Task Force never met.
