Authorized in July 2006, the Blue Ribbon Commission to Study Retiree Health-Care Funding Options organized in 2007 (Chapter 433, Acts of 2006; Chapters 228 & 229, Acts of 2008; Chapters 560 & 561, Acts of 2010). The legal obligations of the State to provide retiree health benefits were studied by the Commission. In addition, the Commission was to hire an actuarial consulting firm to commission an actuarial valuation that shows the State's annual required contribution toward retiree health care.

The Commission last met in January 2009.
