Authorized by the General Assembly in July 2006, the Advisory Council on Workforce Shortage helps the Maryland Higher Education Commission identify fields that are experiencing workforce shortages (Chapter 367, Acts of 2006).
Every two years, the Council recommends to the Maryland Higher Education Commission fields to be included in the Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grants Program, and advises the Commission on fields that no longer face shortages. In making its recommendations, the Council must consider whether such a field provides a public good or benefit to Maryland citizens.
