In April 2002, the Professionalism Task Force was created by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals to study the concept of professionalism in Maryland's legal community. Meetings of attorneys were held in each county and Baltimore City to address concerns about ethics and professionalism, allow attorneys to discuss these issues, and arrive at a consensus on the meaning of professionalism for the legal community.

The Task Force submitted its final report to the Court of Appeals on November 10, 2003.
