ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

In Caroline County, the Department of Public Works maintains the County's roads, bridges, buildings, land, vehicles, and heavy equipment.

Under the Department are two divisions: Facilities, and Roads.

FACILITIES DIVISION
The Facilities Division originated as the Special Services Division, and adopted its present name in 2013.

Today, the Division maintains County's buildings. It also maintains utilities; disposes of solid waste and recycling trash; and directs programs for animal control, insect control, and noxious weed control.

ROADS DIVISION
The Roads Division maintains over 450 miles of roadway and 39 bridges or crossings. It builds, maintains, and widens County paved roads; surfaces unpaved gravel roads; installs signs and highway markings for safe passage on County roadways; and replaces bridges.
