ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION & PARKS

The Department of Recreation and Parks develops and administers a comprehensive recreational program, including the construction, equipment, and use of parks, community centers, and recreational buildings and facilities. The Department also acquires sites for these programs and financial support for artistic, musical and cultural public and private nonprofit organizations and activities; and furnishes recreational and other services in connection with them (Code Local Government Article, secs. 1-601 through 1-611; County Code, secs. 148-1 through 148-4).

The Department works through three divisions: Administrative Services, Parks, and Recreation; and is assisted by the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board.

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
Administrative Services is responsible for the Department's planning, management, registration, and public information.

PARKS DIVISION
The Parks Division manages three playground/community parks, four school community parks, the General James F. Fretterd Community Center; the Choptank Marina; and the County's boat ramps and public landings.

RECREATION DIVISION
The Recreation Division conducts programs for youth, adults, and seniors, and sponsors special events and family services for the community as well.
