ORIGIN & FUNCTIONS


[photo, Cecil County Administration Building, 200 Chesapeake Blvd., Elkton, Maryland] Since adoption of the County Charter in December 2012, the County Council has served as the Legislative Branch of Cecil County government (County Charter, Art. 2, secs. 201-214).

Elected at large by the voters to four-year terms, the County Council consists of five members. Every two years, the Council chooses the Chair and Vice-Chair (County Charter, Art. 2, sec. 201).
