Appointed by the County Executive with County Council consent, Board members serve three-year terms (Code Local Government Article, sec. 1-606; County Charter, sec. 410; County Code, secs. 41-20 through 41-24).
SENIOR CENTERS
Under the Department of Recreation, Active Adults Programs are offered for those age 55 and older. Community and Recreation Centers provide these programs in Brookeville, Burtonsville, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Clarksburg, Germantown, Potomac, Sandy Spring, Silver Spring, and Rockville.

RECREATION BOARD
The Recreation Advisory Board studies the recreation services and needs of the County, and advises the County Executive, County Council, and Director of Recreation on recreation policies and services. The Board also helps develop and maintain cooperative relationships with the Board of Education, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and voluntary agencies in the County on matters affecting recreation programs and services.
Seven Senior Centers are run by the Department of Recreation. They provide a variety of programs, including dance and exercise classes, computer training, mid-day meals, educational seminars, entertainment and social events, health and wellness programs, travel, and sports. Senior Centers are located in Damascus; Rockville (North Potomac Center); Silver Spring (Holiday Park Center, Long Branch Center, Margaret Schweinhaut Center, & White Oak Center); and Wheaton.
