EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE
Established in October 1994, the Emergency Services Committee served as liaison between volunteer fire and rescue units, the Board of County Commissioners, and the Department of Emergency Services. To assure emergency preparedness, the Committee maintained and updated the fire and rescue master plan, which addresses responder resources, and unit levels and placement. This plan ensures emergency coverage and response for all areas of the County.
The Committee developed plans and programs to address emergency unit needs, such as budgetary concerns, and the recruitment, retention, and qualification of responders. Annually, each volunteer response unit that receives funds from the County was required to submit an operating budget to the Committee, as well as a financial audit report performed by a certified public accountant (County Code, secs. 46-1 through 46-3).
Composed of first responders and County public safety officials, the Committee was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to three-year terms.
