DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

Administered by the County Engineer, the Department of Public Works is responsible for capital projects, engineering, environmental operations, recycling, solid waste disposal, stormwater management, water and sewage systems, and waterway improvements (County Charter, sec. 405).

The County water supply, sewage, garbage and sanitary facilities, are regulated, operated, maintained and controlled by the Department. The Department also regulates, operates, maintains, and controls County public landings, wharf facilities, and parks. In addition, it administers and enforces all laws and regulations relating to inspections, licenses, and permits.


ROADS DEPARTMENT

The Roads Department repairs and maintains County roads. Its work includes road patching and repair, maintenance of drainage structures and ditches, road resurfacing, sign maintenance, culvert installation, debris removal, mowing, and snow removal.

In cooperation with the Maryland Department of Agriculture, the Roads Department oversees the Weed Control Department, which is responsible for controlling Johnsongrass and Thistle.
