DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS

The Department of Environmental Programs originated as the Environmental Programs Division under the Department of Development Review and Permitting. In 2011, the Division was reformed as a department.

The Department implements programs, and enforces regulations related to land preservation and environmental planning. The Department also is responsible for agricultural land preservation, natural resources protection, forest conservancy, and Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area oversight.

Four divisions carry out the Department's work: Environmental Programs, Land Preservation and Environmental Planning, Natural Resources, and Plumbing and Gas.
