The District of Columbia-Maryland Gun Task Force was formed by Maryland and the District of Columbia in July 2007 to promote interjurisdictional cooperation in preventing illegal gun-trafficking and gun violence.

The Gun Task Force operated more as a regional partnership than a structured unit of State government.

As of 2010, the Department of State Police, the Prince George's County Police Department, and the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office continue to work with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals.
