AUGUST 25-28, 2008

Maryland sent 99 delegates and 12 alternates to the Democratic Party National Convention in 2008. In Maryland's primary election on February 12, 2008, registered Democratic voters directly elected 46 delegates and 8 alternates, apportioned among the State's eight Congressional Districts. The Democratic State Central Committee, at its May 1, 2008 meeting, selected an additional 15 at-large delegates and 4 at-large alternates proportionate to the number of votes received by each presidential candidate in the February primary election. At that same meeting, the Committee also selected 9 pledged party leaders and elected officials, and 2 unpledged "add-on" delegates. The remaining 27 delegates included specified State party and elected officials, and members of Congress.

JULY 26-29, 2004

Maryland sent 99 delegates and 11 alternates to the Democratic Party National Convention in 2004. They included 45 delegates and 7 alternates elected at Maryland's primary election on March 2, 2004, by the registered Democratic voters in each Congressional district. The Democratic State Central Committee also selected 15 at-large delegates, 4 at-large alternates, and 9 party leaders and elected officials at its May 19, 2004 meeting. The remaining 29 delegates included State party and elected officials, and members of Congress.


DEMOCRATIC PARTY NATIONAL CONVENTION, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA,
AUGUST 14-17, 2000

The Maryland Delegation to the Democratic Party National Convention in 2000 included 95 delegates and 11 alternates. Of these, 44 delegates and 7 alternates were elected directly from each congressional district by registered Democratic voters in the primary election of March 7, 2000. In addition, the Democratic State Central Committee selected 26 delegates and 4 alternates at its meeting on May 13, 2000. The remaining 25 delegates, consisting of State party and elected officials, and members of Congress, received automatic bids.

AUGUST 26-29, 1996

The Maryland Delegation to the Democratic Party National Convention in 1996 included 88 delegates and 11 alternates. Of these, 44 delegates and 7 alternates were elected directly from each Congressional district by registered Democratic voters in the primary election of March 5, 1996. In addition, the Democratic State Central Committee selected 25 delegates and 4 alternates at its meeting on May 15, 1996. The remaining 19 delegates, consisting of State party and elected officials, and members of Congress, received automatic bids.
